WOODWORKS
Sawmilling has been in the Stevens Family since 1987 when Craig and Gary Stevens Sr. purchased a circular sawmill and provided portable milling services for the local areas in Northeastern Vermont. They built many pieces of furniture and milled thousands of board feet. The mill was used to build many log cabins and the furniture, cabinets, and other home furnishings. The Owner of Plankster’s Sawmill and Furniture wishes to carry on his family’s love of woodworking and milling with the local communities in and around Harvard Ma. Craig milled and built the home Thomas grew up in with the trees on his property.

Woodworking involves a series of steps that transform raw wood into a finished product. Here are the first six key steps in the woodworking process, from initial wood cutting to final finish carpentry
The planning and design phase involves conceptualizing the project and creating detailed drawings or blueprints. This step includes measuring and determining the dimensions of the final piece
Accurate measuring and marking are crucial for ensuring that all parts of the project fit together correctly. Using precise tools like tape measures, squares, and marking gauges
Cutting is the process of shaping the wood into the necessary pieces as per the design. This can involve various tools such as handsaws, circular saws, jigsaws, and table saws
After cutting, the wood pieces may need further shaping and smoothing to achieve the desired form and finish. Tools like planes, chisels, and sanders are used to refine the edges
Joinery involves connecting the different pieces of wood to create a stable and cohesive structure. There are various joinery techniques, such as dovetails, mortise and tenon
The finishing step involves applying protective and decorative coatings to the wood surface. This not only enhances the appearance of the piece but also protects it from moisture
